Importing into a custom object works much like importing into a standard one, with a few preparatory steps first.
Before you import
A few steps are required before records can be imported into a custom object. Beyond those, the process matches a standard object import.
You can create custom fields and a Page Layout for your custom object before exporting, if needed.
Exporting: select your custom object from the navigation bar, click Export in the sidebar (click the Show Sidebar icon first if the sidebar isn’t displayed). Custom objects are imported and exported using CSV files.
Fill out the exported CSV, adding any standard or custom fields you may have missed.
Importing: select your custom object from the navigation bar and click Import in the sidebar (again, show the sidebar first if needed). Upload the CSV file, then click Next.
Select your import action:
- Add New Records: adds new records and skips records Insightly recognizes as duplicates.
- Update Existing Records: updates records that match the Record ID field in your file, and skips all other records.
- Add New Records and Update Existing Records: updates matching records, skips duplicates, and adds everything else.
Uncheck the header-row box if your file doesn’t include one, then click Next. Map the fields from your file to Insightly’s fields using the dropdowns, and click Start This Import. You’ll get a confirmation message immediately, and an email within a few minutes once the import finishes, noting any problems along the way.
